Feeling Numb, Empty or Just Not Yourself?
You don't have to be in crisis to deserve support. If something feels off and has for a while, you're in the right place.
Maybe you can't quite explain it. You're getting through the day - work, family, responsibilities but something feels flat. Things that used to matter don't seem to anymore. You find yourself going through the motions, wondering when you started feeling this way, or whether this is just who you are now.
It isn't.
At Soul Prism Therapy in Vaughan, Ontario, we work with people who are carrying a quiet heaviness — the kind that doesn't always look like sadness from the outside, but feels exhausting from within. Whether you're struggling with low mood, a loss of interest in life, or a persistent sense of emptiness, you don't have to keep pushing through it alone. We offer therapy for depression and low mood in person in Vaughan and virtually across Ontario.
You might be here if..
You feel numb more than you feel sad, like you're watching your life from a distance
You've lost interest in things you used to enjoy - hobbies, people, food, sex
Getting out of bed feels like a genuine effort, even after a full night's sleep
You're irritable or snapping at people you love, and you don't know why
You feel like a burden, or like things would be easier if you just disappeared for a while
You're functioning - going to work, taking care of your family, but inside you feel completely empty
You keep waiting to feel better on your own, but months have passed and nothing has shifted
You feel guilty for struggling when your life "looks fine" on the outside
You've been told to just think positive, exercise more, or push through and it hasn't helped
Something happened - a loss, a transition, a disappointment and you haven't felt like yourself since
What therapy for low mood looks like at Soul Prism Therapy
Low mood and depression can feel isolating, especially when the people around you don't quite understand what you're going through, or when your own culture tells you to stay strong, keep going, and not burden others with how you feel.
Our therapists take a different approach. We start by simply getting to know you and your history, your relationships, the context of your life. We don't rush to fix things or hand you a list of techniques. We believe that real change comes from understanding, and that understanding takes time and trust.
Depending on what feels right for you, we may explore the roots of what you're feeling - past experiences, patterns of thought, the stories you've been telling yourself about who you are and what you deserve. We may also work on practical tools for those days when getting through the next hour feels like enough.
All three of our therapists - Kritika, Corrado, and Vaaraki work with individuals experiencing low mood and depression. We offer sessions in English, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, and French, and we are deeply sensitive to the cultural dimensions of mental health including the stigma that can make it hard to reach out in the first place.
You don't need to arrive with the right words or a clear explanation of what's wrong. You just need to show up. We'll figure out the rest together.
When asking for help doesn't feel easy
In many families and communities, struggling with your mental health can carry a weight of shame. You may have been raised to prioritise others, to not complain, or to see asking for help as a sign of weakness.
We understand this. Many of our clients carry these messages alongside their pain. At Soul Prism, you will never be made to feel that your struggles are too small, too dramatic, or too complicated. This is a space where your whole context is welcome.
You don't have to keep feeling this way.
Reaching out is the hardest part and you've already done it by being here. Our therapists are ready to meet you exactly where you are, without judgment and without rushing.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Absolutely. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people who come to us are functioning — going to work, caring for their families — but feel a persistent flatness, emptiness, or low mood that they can't shake. If something feels off and has for a while, that is enough of a reason to reach out. You don't have to wait until things get worse.
-
Sadness is a normal emotion that comes and goes, usually in response to something specific — a loss, a disappointment, a hard day. Low mood and depression tend to linger for weeks or months, often without a clear cause, and they can affect your sleep, appetite, energy, concentration, and interest in things you used to enjoy. If what you're feeling has become your baseline rather than something that passes, therapy can help you understand what's going on and begin to shift it.
-
It is never too late. Many people live with low mood for years before seeking support , often because they've adapted to it, or because they don't feel "bad enough" to ask for help. The fact that it feels normal doesn't mean it has to stay this way. Therapy can help you reconnect with how it feels to actually feel okay and that is worth pursuing at any stage.
-
No. You do not need a diagnosis, a referral, or any official label to start therapy at Soul Prism Therapy.
-
Therapy is an evidence-based approach for low mood and depression, and many people find significant relief through therapy alone. Some people benefit from a combination of therapy and medication and that is a conversation to have with your family doctor or psychiatrist. As registered psychotherapists, we do not prescribe medication, but we are happy to work alongside your medical team if that is the right fit for you.
-
Many people who come to therapy feel that they "shouldn't" be struggling because their circumstances look okay on paper. Depression and low mood do not discriminate based on how your life looks from the outside. What you feel on the inside is real and valid, regardless of what others might think or say. Guilt about struggling is itself something we can explore together in therapy.
-
This is something many of our clients navigate. You are not obligated to tell anyone you are in therapy. Your sessions are completely confidential. We can also explore together how to manage family expectations and the feelings that come with seeking help.
-
This is different for every person, and honestly, there is no single answer. It depends on what you are carrying, what you are hoping for, and how the process unfolds for you. There is no pressure to commit to a set number of sessions upfront.
-
Both options are available. We offer in-person sessions at our Vaughan office at 237 Romina Drive, Concord, ON, and virtual sessions via a secure platform to anyone in Ontario. Many clients find that virtual therapy fits more easily into their daily life - no commute, more flexibility, and the ability to have sessions from a comfortable and private space at home. The research shows that virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person for most concerns, including low mood and depression.

Finding the right fit matters, and it's okay not to know where to start. Take a look at our therapist profiles and see who you feel drawn to. Sometimes a bio, a photo, or a shared language is enough to point you in a direction.
If you're still not sure, you're welcome to book a free therapist matching call with Kritika. She's happy to explore that question with you and help you find the right person without any pressure or commitment.
