Trauma Therapy & Healing in Ontario

Something Happened. And You Have Not Quite Been the Same Since.

You may not even call it trauma. But something is there, underneath everything, shaping how you feel, how you relate to people, and how safe you feel in the world. Trauma therapy at Soul Prism Therapy in Vaughan, Ontario can help you process what happened and start to feel at home in yourself again.

Do you feel on edge even when everything is fine?

You are always waiting for something to go wrong. A sudden noise, a certain tone of voice, a look on someone's face. Your body goes into alert before your mind has caught up. You might feel anxious in situations that should feel safe, or find yourself scanning rooms and reading people constantly. This is not you being dramatic or oversensitive. This is your nervous system doing exactly what it was trained to do to keep you safe. It learned to be on guard, and it has not yet learned that the danger has passed. Trauma therapy can help your body and mind finally get that message.

Are you stuck in patterns you cannot seem to change?

You keep ending up in the same kinds of relationships. You shut down when things get hard. You give too much and ask for nothing. You react in ways that feel too big for the moment and then spend days replaying what happened. You might know intellectually where these patterns come from, but knowing has not made them go away. That is because trauma does not live in the thinking mind. It lives in the body, in the nervous system, in the automatic responses that kick in before you have a chance to choose differently. Talk therapy alone sometimes is not enough. That is why we use approaches like EMDR and somatic work that reach the parts words cannot always access.

Do you feel disconnected from yourself or your life?

Maybe you feel like you are living at a distance from your own experience. Emotions that seem far away, a sense that you are watching your life rather than living it, or a persistent feeling of emptiness that you cannot quite explain. This kind of disconnection is one of the ways the mind protects itself from overwhelming experiences. It is a survival response, not a character flaw. But it can make it very hard to feel present, to feel joy, or to feel connected to the people around you. Healing from trauma means slowly and safely finding your way back to yourself.

Whatever happened to you, whether it was a single overwhelming event or a lifetime of smaller wounds that accumulated, your experience is valid. You do not need to have a dramatic story to deserve support. And you do not have to keep living with the weight of what happened.

Healing is possible. And it does not have to mean reliving everything.

At Soul Prism Therapy, we offer trauma therapy to help you process what happened, understand how it has shaped you, and build a life that feels safe, connected, and genuinely yours. Our lead trauma therapist is Kritika Mehta, a Registered Psychotherapist with over 12 years of experience and training in EMDR, expressive arts, and trauma-informed care. We offer sessions in person in Vaughan and virtually across Ontario.

How trauma therapy works at Soul Prism

We start slowly. Trauma therapy is not about rushing to the hard stuff. Before we touch any painful material, we spend time building a relationship, establishing safety, and developing tools to help you regulate your nervous system. You will never be pushed to go somewhere you are not ready to go.

When you are ready, we begin to gently process what happened. Depending on what feels right for you, this might involve EMDR therapy, which uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they lose their charge. It might involve expressive arts, somatic work, or simply deep and careful conversation. We follow your lead at every step.

Over time, most clients find that the memories lose their grip. The body stops bracing for impact. Relationships begin to feel safer. And the patterns that have been running the show for years start to soften. Healing from trauma is not about erasing what happened. It is about building enough safety inside yourself that what happened no longer controls how you live.

Why work with us?

Kritika brings over 14 years of trauma-informed experience.

Kritika Mehta is a Registered Psychotherapist and EMDR therapist with deep experience working with individuals who have experienced childhood trauma, relational trauma, intergenerational trauma, and complex PTSD. She has worked across two countries and with clients from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. Her approach is gentle, relational, and deeply respectful of each person's pace.

We use EMDR, an evidence-based trauma treatment.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is one of the most well-researched and effective approaches for trauma available today. It is recommended by the World Health Organization for the treatment of PTSD and has a strong body of evidence supporting its effectiveness. Kritika is trained in EMDR and uses it as one of several tools to support trauma healing at Soul Prism.

We understand the cultural dimensions of trauma.

Trauma does not exist in a vacuum. It is shaped by family history, cultural context, immigration experience, and the messages we received growing up about what we were allowed to feel and express. We hold all of this with care. Sessions are available in English, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Tamil, and French.

Safety is the foundation of everything we do.

We will never push you faster than feels right. We will never minimise what you have been through. And we will never make you feel like your experience is too much, too complicated, or too far gone to heal. This is a space that was built to hold hard things gently.
